Organization for SETV Research

The following documents were written by OSR members to codify the SETV strategy and provide a set of rules governing our search efforts and professional behavior. These are living documents and may change over time depending on the progression of the research. There are three primary documents and a group of supporting documents; these supporting documents are typically processes and procedures used to carry out specific tasks and experiments. The documents will be added to this page after they have been completed and have gone through the peer review and signatory approval processes. OSR is conscious of and sensitive to the body of international laws pertaining to the exploration and use of outer space, the security of our world, the UN position on SETI activities and the SETI Declaration of Principles Concerning Activities Following Detection of Extraterrestrial Intelligence [Ref. Acta Astronautica, Vol. 21, No. 2, pp. 153-154, 1990]. It is the opinion of OSR that any ETI search strategies that have any chance of being successful must draft a collection of documents governing the professional behavior of the organization and its individual research participants. ETI search strategies that do not seriously consider the repercussions of actual and verified contact, and fail to write governing documents, will have extreme difficulty gaining the acceptance of the public and scientific community.
